Band Gaps in Metamaterial Plates: Asymptotic Homogenization and Bloch-Floquet Approaches

چکیده

Abstract In this work, we study the transversal vibration of thin periodic elastic plates through asymptotic homogenization. particular, consider soft inclusions and rigid with coatings embedded in a stiff matrix. The method provides general expression for dynamic surface density plate, which compute analytically circular or numerically two-way ribbed plates. Through homogenization, find that band gaps related to in-plane propagating waves occur frequency intervals effective is negative. same result obtained via an analysis Bloch-Floquet problem on unit cell, showing equivalence two approaches. Finally, validate by comparing several examples predicted those from numerical analyses real cell.

Bloch Wave Homogenization and Spectral Asymptotic Analysis

We consider a second-order elliptic equation in a bounded periodic heterogeneous medium and study the asymptotic behavior of its spectrum, as the structure period goes to zero. We use a new method of Eloch wave homogenization which, unlike the classical homogenization method, characterizes a renormalized limit of the spectrum, namely sequences of eigenvalues of the order of the square of. the m...

A Floquet-Bloch Decomposition of Maxwell's Equations Applied to Homogenization

Using Bloch waves to represent the full solution of Maxwell’s equations in periodic media, we study the limit where the material’s period becomes much smaller than the wavelength. It is seen that for steady-state fields, only a few of the Bloch waves contribute to the full solution. Effective material parameters can be explicitly represented in terms of dyadic products of the mean values of the...

Band Gaps in a Multiresonator Acoustic Metamaterial

In this study, we investigated dispersion curves and the band gap structure of a multiresonator mass-in-mass lattice system. The unit cell of the lattice system consists of three separate masses connected by linear springs. It was demonstrated that the band gaps can be shifted by varying the spring constant and the magnitude of the internal masses. By using the conventional monatomic (single ma...

Spectral Properties of Photonic Crystals: Bloch Waves and Band Gaps

The author of this dissertation studies the spectral properties of high-contrast photonic crystals, i.e. periodic electromagnetic waveguides made of two materials (a connected phase and included phase) whose electromagnetic material properties are in large contrast. A spectral analysis of 2nd-order divergence-form partial differential operators (with a coupling constant k) is provided. A result...
